A project based on the word 'becoming'.
Exhibited as a handmade book — with patterns inspired by the moiré effect and a quote from Paracelsus — in front of video & sound played on loop. Please be advised: the video contains flashing images.
The use of the moiré effect as a basis for the visuals is intended to be a representation of the skewed perspective one has of one's own journey to maturity — the blurred lines between oneself and the 'other'.
I also produced T-shirts with a design of the foetal elephant to be sold at the exhibition as a physical representation of the notion that 'becoming' (growth; 'coming-to-be') is a universal one amongst all living things. It was also a fun experiment in silkscreen printing and commercialising my own work.
"Man is a microcosm, or a little world, because he is an extract from all the stars and planets of the whole firmament, from the earth and the elements; and so he is their quintessence." — Paracelsus
